Nugget Nectar found - achievement unlocked.

Also have some Southern Tier 2x Stout and somthing else around here.

It's aged in whiskey barrels, but can't remember the name. Even Tab likes it.

When we drank the lineup of Abyss 2006 through 2011. The 2010 vintage was a contender for being my favorite of them all. Whether it be the barrels used or the base recipe for that year I am clearly sure. Makes me wish I had more because it is going to get nothing but better in another year or 2.

And since im pooping here, I apologize for my delay in sending you a box Joe. I need to hold off for awhile while. Please know a bottle of Black Tuesday has your name on it.

haha, i dont hate them, they are just my least favorite beer class. though i will say i probably hate old english porters.

anyways, we sampled a shit ton of midwest porters, and then someone passed around some aged black butte and everyone was in congruence that that is what a porter should taste like... nothing else was the same after that.

black butte is so freaking creamy, almost a buttery quality. its one of my go to beers, especially when its on sale for $12/12 pack.
did you have Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald? thats an awesome one too.

yeah, but most of the stouts we had were way better than it. the aged edmund was just like it's name, sank at the end

well a stout is a more complex style than a porter imo, and i find porters better fresh.

super late edit: stouts and porters are such an ambivalent term anymore, though my minds picture of a porter is like a session stout. lighter, brighter (in flavor, clearly color). i have no real reason why i feel this way.

i apologize for my lack of participation in this lately. cut back on drinking and been busy with life

i drank a beer last night that was my first jaw-dropping experience in a long time. voodoo brewing's black magick imperial stout 15% aged exclusively in pappy van winkel barrels. absolutely amazing. it was one of the beers released at the event where I was munching on the pig head

i have the same beer also aged in buffalo trace barrels and another variation aged in lairds apple brandy. i cannot wait to try them. it took a lot of reservation last night to just enjoy the PVW version and clearly crack into one or both of the others

@ Dan
Odell brewing is something I assume you have regular access to? Keep your eyes out for "Tree Shaker" its a DIPA brewed with 3,000 pounds of Colorado peaches. I want to hear your opinion about it and if it is half as good as people are saying it is. I think its a corked and caged 750ml bottle.

@ :joe:
I never heard of sticky fingers until you mentioned it. People on BA and untappd have been flipping their shit over it talking about how next time its released they are taking a pack of mules to get 3-4x their allocations. Shit must be good?

Stone- Espresso Russian Imperial Stout

finally, an easy to acquire "normal" beer that will be sold at my local grocery store for $7-9 a bomber that i intend to buy plenty of.

I kinda swore off stone when they fucked around with that odd beers for odd years dumbness. Last time (2011) they did the RIS with belgian yeast and anise. I think this one sounds pretty tasty.

that anise was fucking horrible. maybe its better with age, ill never know. but regular stone ris is a huge "ill take a case please". great affordable beer to have around.

Stone RIS was one of the first beers I started aging in my cellar by the case and enjoyed/drank too much to let age beyond a couple years. It only needs a year and mellows into an even more awesome brew. I will have to take inventory and see what I have left. Just for the sake of experimentation, I think i have a single bottle from '06 through '09 tucked away.

I guess this should be directed @ :joe:

I opened an upright oyster stout this past weekend. My first time ever having a beer that smelled like walking along the ocean or bay. Ridiculous fishy/oyster smell overtop of an a solud base stout. I still dont know if I liked or hated it.

I never am a fan of mineral flavors in beer and this one really had it. For the most part, every oyster stout ive had in the past was sort of a novelty. Yeah it has oysters in it to "increase the body/mouthfeel" but this one was over the edge.

It is worth the experience. Just saying.

there is also a growler only bar near my house that i never knew about. they rarely advertise it seems, and are clearly visible to the main drag (little strip mall off to the side behind other buildings). 30 taps of mostly nw, mostly non bottled beer. $10-12/64 oz.

stop dragging feet, get there!

DISO your opinion about boneyard brewing too btw since my friend was out there and claimed it to be the highlight of the trip. i think they had a pale ale or ipa that was flirting in the top ranks for awhile on BA
