also heard through the grapevine that this is HOTD's 20th anniversary. evidently the release of Matt was a shitshow on the same level as the Adam from the wood release

pelican is, i think, owned by a person/group that also has real estate in the same beach town. so they have found a way to tie the beer release into a "stay the night, have a breakfast" etc. they are still doing the release at the door iirc, though ill have to revisit their email to be sure. i will be there no questions asked for that since its a saturday release and its on the coast and its cold and only 20-30 people show up to stand in line. if they still have vintage ill snag one for you, last year they did also (dan too? anyone else?).

im done with hotd releases. and its clearly so much the lack of any oversight, or the obvious catering to their local crowd, both of which i get as its just a bar who wants to make great beer and clearly hassle with super release day. but then dont charge super release prices, and dont sent a 1 case limit for something there you only have 100 cases, or whatever it was. either have no limit because you only want to sell out and make all your money immediately, or set a low enough limit that you can actually make a few people happy other than the insane that clearly only wait inline forever but also bring 4 mules.

and all the homers will excuse hotd for every "fuck you customer" forever because they make great beer (just clearly every batch, LOL SORRY NO CARB THIS TIME)

EDIT: the matt was a 9pm release, friday night. give wristbands out, clear bar at 8, open at 9 and dont check wristbands at all during the sale process. no organization at all. at least their anniversary events are ticketed event.

the old stock reserve series was first started in 2005. they threw old stock into both brandy and bourbon barrels for 2 years and in 2007 released them for the first time under the vintage listing of 2005 since that was the batch of old stock that went into the barrels

the bourbon version was put in barrels again in 2009 and released in 2011 with the 2009 vintage listing
the brandy version was put in barrels again in 2011 and is now being released in 2013 with a label that reads reserve 2011 since its the old stock from 2011 that was barrel aged for 2 years

expect to pay $26 or more for 500ml corked and caged bottle

i still have a 05 and 09 bourbon
we drank my brandy 05 shortly after my daughter was born and it was just sick...sickenly good. that 15% alcohol goes down like candy. wish i had another to drink side by side with this new batch.

i bet they put this years in bourbon barrels again....maybe in 2015 we can open all 3 vintages of the bourbon version

Yeah that's what I was going for. I haven't had the Brandy version but I've had 2010 and 2011 of the regular and it was like my mouth orgasmed.

I'm thinking maybe it's time to start doing the one or two nights a week thing and just really enjoy what I'm drinking instead of worrying about always having something to drink on a nightly basis.
