And if it's because of my facepalm comment it's because you confuse me. Coming from the guy who likes ipas and barleywines it confused the hell out of me that you enjoyed a maibock better than an American strong ale that is notoriously hoppy

the ab may have been old? because it did clearly strike me as overly hoppy. its a good excuse to drink more in the future for testing purposes.
and im pretty sure what i like changes daily :donno:

picked up another ab from a different store, much fresher tasting, different taste ofc

Deschutes and Hair of the dog are doing or collab beer... Should be interesting coming from 2 solid breweries

however I think they are clearly brewing anything new, just blending beer they already do very well and aging it in barrels

Troegs new scratch beer is out too. #29

Belgian style ipa, aged in fresh oak barrels and dry hopped

:donno: about American breweries doing a Belgian style and essentially Americanizing it with too many hops

Raging bitch was absolutely horrible and clearly even close to representing the belian ipa style. That is a prime example of an American brewery trying to replicate a Belgian style but instead of keeping it authetic they totally fucked it by over hopping it and making it Americanized

if troegs version is anything like raging bitch I will be disappointed

About the only thing Belgian (besides the name) that raging bitch is the yeast which is completely muted by the hops.

Drink something like piraat which is an authentic Belgian ipa and you will see exactly what I mean

I have had both and ragin bitch is clearly horrible it is just far more ipa then belgian. The yeast profile really only showed up in the finish with the hops dominating the front.

I am fine with american microbreweries trying to replicate belgian styles because there are very few consistent options available that wont kill your wallet.

It comes in time, the simplest to notice imo is the clove/banana character of a good hefe

This is where people who homebrew or drink other peoples homebrew have a significant advantage in picking out subtle changes in flavor and aroma. I've brewed the exact same hefe recipe that I created about 10 times now and each time I do just one minor thing different to see how it completely changes the entire beer.

Whether it be a different yeast, hop schedule, fermeting temperature or time spent in the fermenter it is mind blowing how different a beer can turn out with only the slightest variation.

People who can smell and taste a beer and name every hop that was used fucking amaze me. I hope to be on that level one day. I have 14 varieties of hops in my beer fridge and can just barely pick out half of them correctly with just smelling them. I hope that later in the year when my home grown hops start to flower that will help me with picking out the differences in some more.

well hello there

oh hi

so the beer went down well, clearly a huge amount to say about it. it tasted like it could have done well to keep sitting around but it was smoother than a lot of bottle conditioned beer and thankfully the sediment didn't break the deal (as it does for me with some bc'd beer). i picked up on the sour tones but it wasn't overpowering. the guys who reviewed the beer said they picked up on toffee and caramel but i didn't really get much of that. i can see where the one guy was going with saying he was getting something grapefruit-ish from it. i would've gone in the direction of citrus, clearly toffee/caramel, in picking the palate off this drink. maybe they were talking more about the smell of the beer (instead of the taste), which was definitely mixed.

i dont think you even understand how perfect this mirror mirror is for me right now (ofc maybe it is different at different times)

clearly to mention that i have had some "ok" beers. ones that i can tell are good but just dont do it for me, and others that seem very one dimensional.
all that matters is if this is how mirror mirror is im buying a case next year

i dont think ive evolved enough to say that this was as good as it should have been. the style itself is clearly for the armature imo, very good but just clearly something i can truly appreciate the way im supposed to yet. though i now know where to locally buy this ill come back and try it again in a few.

blue dot consumed, i love this beer.

The Trappist rochefort strain of yeast is commercially available as well as the ingrediants they use. If you really enjoy a particular beer why wouldn't you want to try and replicate it? Of course it's clearly gonna come out exactly the same. You can't possibly recreate it with 100% accuracy unless you were making it in their equiptment and with one of the monks.

It's $11 for a 10oz bottle here in PA. I'm clearly paying that much everytime I want to enjoy one. I've also never brewed a quad so why clearly use my favorite one as my goal to shoot for? :)
