going to block japan from sending a settler down (until they can embark), will try to settle a city on the wine in the middle of the island, it might reach that natural wonder right there if the citystate doesnt expand to take it first

had a ruin which increases population, so im going for gr8 library


got great lib, got free theology

decided to settle further up the island instead of on the wine, because the citystates borders were expanded fast enough to block the barringer crater

so now im in this situation, god damnit this is bullshit

earth, huge, marathon, dif 6 (if i could somehow remove the tedious "diplomacy" from harder difficulties id play them more, but i honestly do despise not only the "you must trade everything always" but also the ui for it. why cant i just select a resource and see who i can trade with, why are you forced to go through each civ etc.

as it stands on a huge map its like adding a difficulty since the computer seemingly picks one civ that will steamroll everyone close to it until they have 35 cities and that alone makes science and culture hard to keep up with. im going to beat this setting at some point, but i think its time i did so not as ethopia.

there is a strat thats based off of this anyway, insane city sprawl. i wonder if normal game pace will have any effect, or if its purely the size of the map that allows so many cities to exist.

babylon game update

im ahead slightly/keeping up with all other civs on science due to babylon unique passive

around 1700 AD, songhai, egypt, and byzantine declared war on me within 10 turns, i had just captured kuala lumpur (citystate) and had a decent standing army to defend. kyoto and babylon have great production

140 year war developed with byzantine launching ships from the south at antioch, i had artillery on the hills firing south/at ships, but there was so many ships the battle actually lasted 140 years. songhai was sending ships from the east at kyoto, and the citystate marrakech was attacking by land.

in this pic, i just made peace with egypt (didnt engage me at all, across the map), and songhai (no threat to me, hes a very weak civ), and just captured marrakech. my gold/turn is only negative because my trade routes are currently blocked by sea. happiness is negative because just taking marrakech (was at ~20 happiness for whole game until war broke out/trading stopped)

victory details, leader (hiawatha) just hit atomic age, so still a ways off on science, too many people have been at war so not many research agreements are going on

byzantines have 3 cities, all above 130 defense, which means i basically have to wait for satellites and nukes to even try to assualt their islands

my neglected culture is a huge missed opportunity, i have 2 commerce and 1 rationalism

maybe the time per stolen is related to the available techs to be stole? anyway, 6th tech stolen is now 8 turns
