i wish the higher difficulties had smarter ai instead of lets just give them free money and production
i dont want to have to exploit weaknesses in the enemies programming to be competitive

I usually skip it anymore and instead build reg lib and rush NC - seems to be a bigger tech boost overall.

e: turn 25 though just seems batshit insane.

thats the earliest ive ever seen it, i think its usually in the 40s on difficulty 7

you pretty much have no chance to even try for it on difficulties 7 and 8

started a game last night to see how fast-ish I could get it (was only on king/5 difficulty) popped GL on turn 35? - next thing I knew it was like 2 am and I got pissed because China kept suidicing their shit on me and I missed machu pichu by 1 turn - even though I had been building it since like the dawn of time.

thats the 2nd expac? i thought about buying it, but was too expensive at the time

it also seemed like they added so much shit to the point its too diverse, i thought even religion in first expan was making it too complex, although my games would be vs super hard comps who would have top tier culture+science+economy+faith all the time

im on my first playthrough so take this with a grain of salt. i think the best part of what it adds is that it kinda forces you to be a specialist. kinda. like your culture branches dictate which wonders you can build, and later on there is a world congress that meets every x turns and you can vote on various things. for example, if your rival has a ton of a specific luxury resource, you can petition for it to be banned, and then bribe for votes to pass the ban. you can also ban trade with other civs.

they also added culture specialists, which help spread your cultural influence to other civs. if another civ is a different cultural trait than you then the spread is less.

it might be too much to take in on the hardest difficulties, but then again ive never liked how civ handles the hardest tiers anyway. just giving the computer more to work with and able to do things faster makes the mandatory micro too tedious to be fun for me.

I guess my issue has always been how much more difficult the expansion made doing
research agreements. It made no sense to me that we had to be friends, and given the
expansions overzealous nature to have everyone backstab like madman I lost out way
too many times on extra science.

I play the xpac from time to time, but honestly 9/10 times when I play I just play vanilla.

I know, I know, I suck.

the problem with ai is that they have balanced empires but excel in every category, where a player can only excel in 1 or 2 categories, and by sacrificing other aspects
