can someone tell me if balugamesh should get this passive or not? it sounds like a waste, but its right in the duelist tree so i dont know what other build it would be useful for

It's a nice stat but it comes down to what the players preference is. I would pretty much always get it, especially if you plan on running grace cause more often than not grace will end up giving you more armor then determination would straight up. (I currently run both and have Iron Reflexes on a Scion Caster)

There's positives and negatives to having higher armor or having evasion so it's pretty much pick your poison.

To elaborate more, the dmg reduction is pretty much based on your armor values and how hard the enemies hit, even having an absurb amount of armor wont necessarily help vs certain things (like Brutus, Kole, Vaal's smash) as their dmg is just way too high. but having high armor will make it so average mobs don't really hurt you much at all.

Evasion would likely be better vs those harder hitting bosses as the armor wont be high enough to reduce them but chance to evade will still be present.
(I don't recommend letting them hit you no matter what you do though)

You'll likely take more dmg from trash mobs (with evasion) when they do hit you

Also I believe armor reduces dmg taken from physical reflect where as it bypasses evasion completely.
I use Ethereal Knives and if I didn't have as much armor as I do I think I would likely 1 shot myself to phys reflect (even as is it does quite a bit to me)

/e I could be wrong on certain things but this is what I believe to be true as of writing it.

but exchanging say 30% armor + 30% evade for 50% armor 0% evade sounds dumb

Sounds like tank problems son, but nn giving up 30% dodge for a straight 20% armor gain and I dont even play the game

when things can 1-shot you dodge wont be your friend
though can apparently be much higher in overall effectiveness its still a rng-based stat and death is permanent.

Evasion is unreliable even with the entropy system they use. This game isn't like other games. There is literally tons of shit in this game that can 1-4 shot you at any given moment.

It doesn't matter that you can dodge a lot of attacks or spells if you don't dodge the ones that take your entire life. Whereas if you stacked mitigation, you know what to expect and can control the situation better.

This doesn't mean Evasion/Dodge/Block builds can't work, but it takes a shit load of tweaking to make these types of build able to survive high content and sometimes requires certain itemization.

Whereas when you stack armor over evasion, you know what to expect and you know what type of damage most of the time you are going to take. You don't worry about whether or not if you will dodge/evade something.

Worry about your life and then your resists. Then your armor. Then what kind of health pots you have. Then your leech/regen. These are the things that will keep you alive.

And especially your first characters should never be evasion based. It's just too much shit to fuck with.

Case in point, Grace is the best aura in the game. Pick up Iron Reflexes and run Grace.
