I was thinking about buying this, but I never played 1-3. Two of my friends who kinda aren't into FPS and stuff, both have maxed achievements on the first 3 games. So these really are worth buying if you're not into FPS outside of halo really?

I think it's much better than Halo, atleast as far as matchmaking is concerned.

The single player, though somewhat short, is replayable and enjoyable.
The multi player leveling system is very well done and makes it very addicting
