Just send them something...ANYTHING be it 1$ or 1000$ they can't do much to you if you are actively TRYING to pay it off. Even better would be to call them up and tell them you are a broke ass and need to work out a long term payment plan. Most companies will work with you quite fairly. AMEX being one that I have had personal experience with when I was in my early 20's and just could't believe I got a CC that had $10k on it!
They aren't really helping me out too much since I ignored them for quite a while.
I've gotta drop 2,000$ in two days and hope that I can get a loan or another credit that I can swap. The fucking APR for not paying them for like 4-5 months and being late, etc. is 32% and I've been doing some Excel models and they are pretty fucking ridiculous.
Oh and the other cards I have, I'm just starting to send them fucking 10$ a month. They can go fuck themselves for now. Hoping to have two jobs by the end of this week, this is definately putting college off the burners for a while.
When I was 23, I had racked up maybe 7 grand over 4 CC's. I am 29, and debt free (outside of 3 grand of student loans left). The only thing I can say is don't ignore them. The $10 is ok, but stay in contact with them. They will waive lots of fees as long as you continue to talk to them.
Don't fuck yourself over. As for the $2000, I have had them do this to me also, and all I can say is be honest. If you don't have it, at least get ona payment plan, automatic debit or something, so they have a commitment. Maybe they won't work with you, but 99% of the time they will because they want their money.
G'luck.
