in fact, as a Loas wedding, they bring XO around to everyone at the reception and you buy a shot (at least 5 bucks, generally 10 or 20) and you take a shot in honor of the bride/groom.

then later they come by and just give you more. the repeats all night.

You don't know the Asian community then (at least here). It is more communal then by far. If someone dies, that family can expect 5-10K in donation over the 3 day ceremony they hold for the person. Monks must be present all three days to help the soul be released.

The Laos people here are pure alcoholics. They have a party on friday cuz it's friday. the old ladies stay awake gambling for 24 hours plus. thousands of dollars change hands. the men get shit faced. great crowd though. all very polite. they would even speak english if I was in the room so I would not feel so left out kek.
