Depends on:
what he was fishing for
where he was fishing
and what type of trout that was

I cant exactly identify it but it looks like a hybrid rainbow trout.
Where I live, the brown trout in my profile is one of the largest anyone in my area has ever seen/caught.
However, if you move up north to the great lakes (Erie) there are hybrid brown trout that gore themselves on salmon eggs and can grow upwards of 30 lbs.

On the other hand, 30 lbs for a Salmon is small. :P

btw my fishing trip this weekend never happened, all who supposed to go got flu
now i doubt anyone will be willing to go fishing untill spring

but this spring we going 100% to fishing trip in norway for a few days
norwegian salmon is something special
