The most stable strategy for a 'normal' group make up (no extra main tanks, no extra main healers):
1. Have the main tank pull and tank as normal. Off tank (usually a dpser in tank gear (
JOE)) gets in combat to soak some charges during the humanoid phase, but otherwise stays out of melee range as to avoid taking any unnecessary whirlwind damage
2. Healer heals as necessary; the other two dpsers do not get in combat at all to reduce the number of potential impale victims.
John, Joe, and myself pull with whoever else standing very far away.3. As the main tank (
Stoya) I've found it's not a bad idea to run Gal'darah in circles, in order to mitigate a lot of the damage, and also already be on the move when he strats whirlwinding. As there's no-one dpsing at this time threat isn't an issue.
4. Once Gal'darah transforms the off-tank (
JOE) taunts immediately. The healer (
JOHN) will probably need to boost their healing at this point.
5. Continue the fight until the main tank gets impaled, at which point they taunt immediately (
JOE) and resume tanking for the rest of the fight.
6. Once the off-tank and healer are both impaled, the other two dps join the fight. People have said that Impale ignores LoS - however, unless my groups have been extremely lucky this isn't true. We usually tuck the people who have already been impaled around a corner so they're out of LoS (except the healer, and the MT - who should have already been impaled), and they don't get impaled again. It could be extreme luck on our part, or people not actually getting out of LoS for the people who say it doesn't work.
7. Aside from this, we don't really start dps until all the impales have gone off. The fight done normally is a joke, and once the impales have been sorted it's simply a case of tank and spank.
One final note - 'What The Eck' is a ridiculously easy achievement in Gundrak, but if anyone in your group hasn't done it, let them know that there's a chance they won't get it done if going for Share The Love, due to the increased difficulty of the fight and higher mortality rate.
