Need to be able to upgrade ram etc

Need suggestions on things I can skimp on and buy better later.

Buy a good/reliable motherboard that can fit processors still being made, buy the lowest end processor that fits it (which is still good enough), then get a cheap HD+memory. Reuse old CD/DVD drives if possible, buy a good power supply because those are still cheap. Reuse old keyboard+mouse, and monitor if possible.
