couple of years ago i hunted up and down for a book that talked about the battles in north africa during the early days of WWII (this would be why we dont like the french). finally found http://www.liberationtrilogy.com/army_at_dawn.htm and bought it for my dad.

turns out the book details the battles there, tells about how when they lost the "hill" they were fighting over anyone who could not walk was executed, and a total of 30(+/-) men marched to their camp. through this book my dad found some dude in indiana who was there with my grandpa during this, made the march, stayed at the same camp, and escaped 10 months later.

pretty interesting, will be buying this book asap. dads going to italy to see the camp they were prisoners at next year too.

tl;dr: real american heros

tried looking up official information on him about 10 years ago and there is very little being that they were wiped and executed and only a handful of survivors made it out of italy 2+ years later

anyway, kinda cool to finally have real information on all of this
