today we were extracting caffeine from tea leaves in lab, so we set up this nice apparatus that includes at the top a water cooled tube so the steam will reliquify and go back through the tea, to get more caffeine.

Well i extracted caffeine for an hour like i was supposed to, turned off the heater, then i went to turn off the water so i could examine my sample. righty tighty, right? normally yes, but this time instead of turning on the knob just came off and water started exploding out. needless to say i am soaked for being in the line of fire for roughly a half of a second, thats how much water was coming out. lab assistant comes over and is like, oh fuck this and says labs over, everyone out.

i should also say i was the first person to reach this point in the lab, so i fucked everyone over and no ones sample is going to turn out well. everyone was still pleased with me though because we got out extremely early and we might not be able to do the rest of the experiment.

then i had to wait for the bus out in the cold, whilst already soaked, ofc. Not to mention this is the second time this has happened to this lab of 60 people, and both of the times it happened to my lab station.

they have a bottle of 99.5% EtOH, and the other .5% is something that will kill you if you drink it

They put methanol in it so you can't drink it thus it isn't taxed ridiculously, as well as the purest alcohol being distilled w/ benzene so it is inherently toxic.
