Overview: 3 story double home from the late 1800's. Two families previously lived in each half before the owners (who we purchases it from) did a half ass job of making it a single house for their family of 6 to live in.

Currently: 2 people 1 dog occupying roughly 2/3rd of the house.

Objective: Remove main support wall running down the middle of the house that separates where the division of the original 2 houses were. Consolidate two flights of side-by-side steps into a single open stairway. Remove wall between kitchen and laundry room to make very large kitchen. Move laundry room to new area/space created by removal of unnecessary 2nd set of steps. Expand kitchen outward into yard. Consolidate 2 electric service boxes into one. Rewire entire electrical setup in house. (entire second and third floor unplanned as of yet.) Dig out cellar and dig out yard/area under kitchen to create a recreational room under our current kitchen. Remove back portch and create breezeway attaching house to garage. Expand garage out into yard to make room for 3rd vehicle bay and increased brewing operations and create second story on garage for bar/game area.

Sounds like a big plan and plenty of opportunity to keep a beer in hand whilst doing the "hard work".

I've already discussed the ideas with 2 architects to see if our vision is even possible. Right now the biggest hurdle is this main supporting wall running right down the middle of the house. After I talk to my uncle who is a private architectural consultant we are going to make shit happen

It all depends. I'm bracing myself for the worst and have come to terms with the possibility of having to get another temporary place or moving in with parents...

1. Yes OFC
2. The house we were interested in buying comes with a price tag of over $350k and due to the economy they are uncertain if they will be moving out in the next 5 years. So we are pressing on with the plan of sticking with what we got and making it fit our needs/wants instead of buying something different that is "closer" to what we want.

That other house is pretty much my dream house...located at the base of the mountain in the middle of the woods. Price tag was salty even for a better economy. Who knows, we will see why happens. Worse case possible I will at least get a chance to sharpen up my handyman skills and put them to use in the other house if they consider selling for a more reasonable price or any other place we might want if this one doesn't work out.

Hey bastard, I'm working my way down.

I say the following with a bit of trembling in my voice: living with parents won't be that bad since time awake will be spent working on the house and any frustration from parents will be a motivating factor to bust ass and get shit done

how exactly would that work, like would it be alternating male and female or like the women on the outside and the men on the inside?
