With the Paragon system in place, we’re capping Magic Find and Gold Find to 300% (before Nephalem Valor). This means that without any Magic Find gear at all, you’ll hit the cap when you reach Paragon level 100.

While the benefits to progression are obvious, you may be asking how this impacts Magic Find on items. We wanted to find a solution that was not only very forgiving of gear swapping, but one that would ultimately help us slowly and gently move Magic Find off of items in the future.

Introducing the Paragon System

The new Paragon system coming in patch 1.0.4 is designed to address Magic Find gear-swapping while providing players who’ve reached level 60 with an extended progression system.
Here’s how it works:

After you hit level 60, any further experience you earn from killing monsters will begin to count toward Paragon levels
There are 100 Paragon levels
Every Paragon level will reward you with:

Core stats such as Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Vitality in amounts similar to what you’d gain from a normal level
3% Magic Find and 3% Gold Find


In addition, a distinctive increasingly-impressive border will surround your character portrait in the in-game party frame to denote your Paragon progression, with a new frame earned after every ten levels. Your Paragon level will also be visible to other players wherever your normal level is shown

It is and it isn't. In the short term it still has use, in the long term not really. This does give you the option of continually upgrading eq to not even worry about mf, to the point you are farming the highest content and never using mf gear.

What this also means though is MF will be continually devaluing, meaning why bother really with the modifiers anyways?

Everyone will have one char they mf with, but with no mf, and no one will use mf gear on their other chars because no reason to ever bother with it.

D3 is failing, emergency turn it into wow 2

Also law of diminishing returns here, while it might take 2 years to get all the way up, you will probably stop using mf gear altogether far sooner than that.

Do you really need that last 25%? 50%? At what point will most players not care anymore? 200% Paragon?

removing mf, in the long term, makes no sense as mf was one of the core game choices you had with your char. sure, we are talking way down the road.

For normal/casual players mf will be valid to get you to the magical 300% cap.

imo the problem is they are removing/planning on removing one of the core item choices the game is founded on. i dont care how long it takes, its the overall direction of the change. now maybe blizz has some good changes to build on this, who knows.

who cares if mf is phased out tomorrow or next year? they clearly stated their intention is to eventually take it off of items. thats what the discussion should be about.

This case isnt closed. You still have 2 hours of downtime until you can resume business as usual. Who knows, in that amount of time they might render magic find useless.

The discussion is about magic find suddenly becoming useless as soon as the patch is live which is false. It is only relevant after you get a character to level 100 in the paragon and noone knows how long that will take. Im sure mac already has a hack for that and is laughing all the way to the bank.
