why the integrated gfx? thats a work laptop. clearly that rs is somehow taxing to the computer, but if you are going to buy at least buy something that is viable for a few years.
IMO

Intel integrated HD graphics are horrendous, I lag if I try to run RuneScape at max/fullscreen.
About the laptop...
Pro:
Good processor for the price, a lot of the sub-$500 computers have older/slower Intel/AMD processors.
Great keyboard, Toshiba keyboards are pretty much the best. Solid choice for schoolwork
4GB RAM is the most you are going to get without spending a lot more, some of the bargain models still have 2-3 gigs (LOL)
This is a standard model from Toshiba, clearly a promotional model (i.e. holiday sale cheapie with leftover parts)
Toshiba's hard-drive control software that stops the drive when it detects vibration seems premature HDD death
Con:
Toshiba's mfgr warranty is a huge pain in the ass, keep the box/packaging since you'll need to pay for a box+shipping if you ever need to send it to them (HP/Dell/Acer all send prepaid boxes)
For a bit more you could have gotten an i3 (still bad integrated graphics) or Phenom II quad-core with better integrated graphics. You don't really need that though, you seem to be competent with computers so it is more powerful than you need (since you won't have seven toolbars and five extra programs on startup)
There is basically nothing you can do to upgrade this laptop (clearly that you need to)
You got a good deal overall, this is just an older model from Toshiba's regular retail rotation that is being replaced*, the laptops with comparable internals that are cheaper tend to be promotional items (limited run/leftover parts) or cheapo brands (Acer). Toshiba makes great screens and keyboards, so that's perfect for school. The only thing comparable that I would recommend would be similar HP laptops, but only at a good price from a retail store, where you need to deal with jerks who try to sell you everything.
*probably by the same internals and a different pattern on the outside, seriously.

hijacking this toilet for own computer internet troubles
desktop cannot connect to the internet at all, no fucking idea why
xp sp3, i've tried changing the wireless from wpa2 to wpa to wep to none, won't connect to anything. microsoft support is equally unhelpful
clearly physically possible to connect it through a direct line, so it looks like just league this break and no vent
awesome
