Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act: +$100b per year without raising taxes, simply closing loopholes in the law that are heavily abused. Is there a valid reason to oppose this?

no valid reason. if you watched the commentary i pooped, he pretty much said it how it has to be done

raise taxes for everyone, lower spending everywhere, cut loopholes out, eliminate worthless agencies, etc

His assessment of "worthless agencies" is pretty weird. The Census and poopal Service are mentioned in the Constitution, and USPS turns a profit before congressional mandates require it to pay into a fund.

We shouldn't raise taxes for everyone. We should raise taxes for people making considerably more than the living wage.

We have a lot of important programs that are much more valuable to the people than others. Defense is by far the most questionable return for the increased spending in the last decade, and our overseas wars are a colossal waste of money and lives.

the crux of it all is what capitalism actually is. it is a system that continually looks for the cheapest labor and the highest sell price. the system is probably the best we have as humans atm, but it has flaws. and the government should have systems set up that counter the flaws, clearly enhance the flaws. and those systems should clearly be controlled by the very people they need to regulate, this only solidifies those in position to control their respective markets and to hinder competition. competition, the very thing that makes our capitalist system work.

we have a media system, the fourth estate, that since being allowed to be publicly traded, has slipped more and more into sensationalist hype and propaganda. then courts say its perfectly legal to for the news to lie to the public.

so what you have is a system captured by industry, a media whose main goal is profits and political gains. and we bitch and moan about some taxes and "entitlements". the fact we are even talking about our taxes (which are pretty low really) and our social spending (which is only out of control because the medical industry has captured the government spending and can take what it wants [in the name of profits]).

social security, solvent to 2039 (with the baby boomers dying before that and probably making us solvent longer) must be rectified. medicaid must be pulled in. 729 (?) military bases that we fully or partially fund. 668 billion a year in military spending that we know about.

The only responsible way to resolve our fiscal crisis is to increase government income while maintaining and improving the benefits that the American government provides to the American people. Warren Buffett's recent commentary in the NY Times regarding the reality of taxes and jobs highlights the reality and misconceptions of American economics. We must:

-Tax capital gains at income.
-Make an effort to tax disposable income rather than reduce our standard of living.
-Immediately and drastically reduce war spending. These wars are aimless, wasteful, and against American ideals.
-Stop trying to create jobs by privileging large corporations and the ultra-rich. This does clearly work.

Economic and fiscal policies of the last ten years have been intentionally devastating, please do clearly eliminate the successful programs of government with spending cuts.

Thank you,
stev

its a good read, conservatives will continue to spread misinformation, corporations will continue to hide mountains of cash offshore until another tax holiday is granted, more bonuses will be paid

counter-point, we could adopt a german tax model, roughly 15% corporate tax, 45% top marginal tax. incentive for business to invest and clearly just suck money out to the top tier.

both models are better than fake tax %'s that only the poorer business owners pay because they are clearly rich enough for deductions and loopholes.
