No, it doesn't. Headphones have two speakers that input directly into your two ears.

:donno: about spending that much on a gaming headset, you could get a solid pair of headphones for $100ish (Grado SR-60/80, Sony MDR-7505, Sennheiser whatever) and you could always clip a mini microphone onto that. You could also get a proper vocal microphone (Shure SM58 or whatever) for around $100.

In my experience, you don't get more by spending a lot more on a headset for gaming, and the higher end ones have inferior sound quality to a lot of headphones that cost less. :donno: about wireless though.

ya was thinking this also, but apparently some headphones have 4 speakers in each ear (front, rear, middle, bass)

You get serious diminishing returns on audio gear. Some of the things that can really improve are sound isolation and a bit more balance across the spectrum. Still, most of the guys I know who do professional production don't spend that much on headphones or speakers. One guy who is known for mastering albums told me he uses a dozen different headphone/speaker setups to listen, but none of them cost more than a couple hundred. I think that's really reasonable, since the majority of people don't listen on expensive sound systems, but there's a lot of variation. High-end audio is mostly what you personally think sounds good, and thinking that something sounds good because you paid a lot for it.

i have a pair of creative ep-630 earbuds for five years now that still sound better than any cheap/middle ground earbuds i've ever listened to/owned before/since. i think they cost me ~$15 on sale from amazon

i freely admit i have a hard time taking anyone's opinion seriously about audio/music on campus if i see them with skullcandy or beats. that has no relevance to this topic other than please don't buy skullcandy or beats if you get headphones/earbuds clearly strictly for gaming. they are ridiculous

I mostly agree, but a lot of discount stores carry the low-end SC stuff pretty cheap. Ink'd earbuds are extremely inconsistent and clearly worth $20, but they're worth $5-10 if you don't mind them breaking in under a year. Beats are garbage, there are better headphones for what they do for half the price or less.

i feel like people think stuff is good just cuz its expensive for a lot of things. also, most people dont shop around/read reviews like a crazy nut like i do.
