just finished watching "into the wild" & i am strongly considering something similar when i finish school but clearly quite to the same extremes

i dont think alaska would be my final destination of choics but it is definitely someplace i want to go & experience.

i think i will loop south towards mexico/texas/the south/ and up the appalachian trail. always wanted to hike the full thing

from there cut west & see sights etc making way towards alaska, spend a year there and then head back to society. if thats possible even

but none of this will happen for at least 2+ years, i want to finish school first. plenty of time to plan & map everything out

im clearly even intending it as a trip of self-discovery bc its clearly; its a trip for the experience of it all but i think self-disc is a result

well thats all i really have about that right now. i hope you guys have a journey of some kind planned & can share the experience w others

bc as important as experiencing it is i think sharing that w someone is of equal import. i think that was the point of the whole movie

Im workin on the AT. Weekends at a time . Sitting right at 78 miles. Always wanted to do a long backpack adventure but then life happened

101 south to san diego
realized the mexico border is a terrible place for a white dude to walk around
stop at san fran and head east
go to reno
head southeast to vegas
east to flagstaff
head to albuquerque
head southeast to roswell
realize you are about to enter eastern texas and that shithole place is huge and it sucks
from albuquerque head north to denver
realize you dont want to walk through nebraska so go more north to the badlands
head southeast to the ozarks and applachia further east
finish at nicks house for a bottle of crown

so far ive got eugene -> redwoods -> san fran -> coastal/beaches until la area. i really liked slab city in the movie i would love to go see that in person, i think its san diego-ish

from there head to vegas, see family, head east grand canyon/powell area, want to go to southern utah and see the canyons/arches/moab etc

then colorado, high step it around texas or maybe go to austin idk this part is still blurry

ozarks yes i also want to see new orleans then maybe up from there to southern appalachian + make way up that way

at top of appalachia start heading west again, south dakota/montana is goal, up thru canada to alaska, alaska. i want to see the arctic circle and the tundras and shit, meet inuit. head south from there when weather is nicer + eventually make way back to portland

im thinking it takes 3-4 years once i graduate, then i go back to freelance photojournalism


i want to do something similar and backpack across europe but that might have to come later, dont think i could afford that yet. idk. lots of time to plan more in depth
