We are still having problems with basic social issues. The rest of the developed world has moved on from these problems.

A lot of people don't realize NASA is more than just about space. They cover many technological fields.

The key is they do it while solving space problems. They're clearly looking to do those other things, it happens as a result of it.

Xray machines came about because we were looking at a new way to look at the stars. It just so happens hey, you can look inside of people without cutting into them too.
