Joe,
I honest to christ love that you are a humanitarian and kind hearted person. Excuse me for being cynical and thinking that there is something phishy about this.

there is something phishy. its:
A: there is no way to identify what debt is being relieved
B: the debt being relieved has sunk to the very bottom of the debt pool, and wont make much of an impact at all. though, if it were to actually succeed, like $1 million spent to offset $30 million of debt, maybe the value of debt rises a bit, thus strengthening people balance sheets better.
C: it puts money in rich peoples hands, and people who have debt that has fallen this far may have other debt and no impact will be had

with that said i just love the idea of buying debt to erase it. its a great idea that should be investigated, and maybe it will highlight some generosity in our overtly negative world.

edit: by investigated i mean if the overall public could see that this debt could be wiped out so easily, and they realized that this type of debt is just sold and resold as a package to help someones bottom line but has no realworld function then i dont know what would change

You see. The reason im so bitter is because this one time I wanted to help a person in need. He spent all his money at the casino and got kicked out. So I paid him $100 for his $100 bucks worth of chips. but when i got inside the chips were fake and i was scammed out of $100

then there was this other time. the company i worked for participated in the "SEKA" campaign. i was told my monetary donations would go to non-profit charities. it wasnt until after i pledged half my pay for 6 weeks that i found out 70% of the money i was donating actually went to administrative costs, scheduling, planning and advertisement of the cause

people freaked the fuck out about this mud run thing a few months ago. the whole thing is pink everywhere and claims that a portion of the profits will be donated to charity. in the fine print somewhere it states that 5% is donated - shit hit the fan!

sounds like mothers against drunk driving
#1 worst charity of the year. original founder left because it became too radical and clearly efficient at all.
